چکیده
Clinical findings: A 26 year old Indian woman was referred to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR), Klang for expert management of a swelling over the right posterior auricular region (Fig. 1). FNAC was done in 2006 and it revealed a basal cell adenoma of the right parotid gland. Upon examination, the swelling was mildly tender to palpation, lobulated and firm in consistency with a maximum dimension of 4cm. CT scan revealed a uniformly dense, well def ined, lobulated right parotid gland with cystic spaces in the medial aspects of the superior and the deep lobe of the parotid gland (Fig. 2). Persistence of fat spaces was observed. Cervical lymphadenopathy was present and there was no evidence of vascular invasion or bony erosion. A superficial parotidectomy was performed under general anesthesia and the specimen was submitted for histopathological examination. At a 16 – month follow – up there was no evidence of any recurrence.

متن کاملThe Diagnostic Value of B-Mode Sonography in Differentiation of Malignant and Benign Tumors of the Parotid Gland
Introduction: Different imaging modalities are used to evaluate salivary gland diseases, including tumors. Ultrasonography (US) is the preferred method on account of its ease of use, affordability, safety profile, and good tolerance among patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of US in differentiating malignant from benign parotid tumors, in the context of previous controversy...

Introduction: Acinic cell carcinoma is an uncommon low grade tumour of the salivary glands that constitutes 2.5 to 4% of parotid gland tumours. Acinic cell carcinoma -Papillary cystic variant (ACC-PCV) is histologically composed of tumor with papillary and cystic growth patterns, with varying proportions of one or more cell types. It has been conferred significance because it has a poorer progn...

متن کاملBenign parotid lesions: is near total parotidectomy justified?
INTRODUCTION Benign tumours of the parotid gland constitute about 80% of parotid tumours. The most common benign tumour of the parotid gland is pleomorphic adenoma. Other conditions, like Kimura's disease, may mimic a tumour when they present as a parotid mass. Various modes of treatment have been advocated for the treatment of benign parotid lesions, ranging from enucleation to near-total paro...
